The next generation Volvo XC60 has been speculatively rendered ahead of a probable 2016 market launch.
Volvo's main priority right now is to roll out the second-gen XC90 which they admit it's the brand's last chance so hopefully everything will work out as planned to allow the Swedish marque continue with the lineup overhaul. The next in line is a replacement for the S80 sedan which will be commercialized as the S90 and will be bigger and more luxurious. The model will also form the basis of a V90 range-topping wagon derived from the sleek Concept Estate.
A brand new XC60 should be out in 2016 riding on the same Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) as its bigger brother, the XC90. Seen here is a speculative render of the XC60 with strong influences from the company's flagship SUV but Volvo has already specified the new XC60 will look sportier than the XC90 which has obviously been developed as a more luxurious model.
A Polestar variant of the XC60 is also being considered and if green-lighted it will likely debut on the second generation model.
Before the end of the decade, Volvo will launch a smaller crossover slotted below the XC60 and it will probably be sold as the XC40. The model in question will ride on the new Compact Modular Architecture (CMA) co-developed with parent company Geely.
