Hi. I'm a Malaysia Chinese. Sorry that I do not have a chinese character input software so I'll post my messages in English.
I just found out that Proton is trying to sell their Gen2s in Taiwan. My advice is for the same amount of money, pls buy a japanese, european & even a korean make. Don't ever choose a Proton cause you are going to regret later.
In Malaysia, Proton cars is protected by the government. They force us to buy only Proton cars by imposing exorbitant high import tax for all imported cars. Imagine we have to pay almost USD30K for a Toyota Altis 1.6. A Vios 1.5 imported from Thailand cost us USD23K while Proton cars are priced between USD11K to 23K with minimum spec. Air bags & ABS are not standard accesorries in Proton cars. Their model range will stay in the market for 15 to 20 years with minor cosmetic changes only since they do not have to produce new model due to minimum competition from imported cars.
With all these protection, Proton did not have the attitude to improve since their cars can sell no matter how bad quality their product is. They use cheap material to make their cars. Some examples here are the 'legendary' power windows that failed after a few months which they could not solve even after 20 years experience. Others include cheap plastic materials that are used in the interior and will fell off after 2 to 3 years.
Their assembly line workers do not have the Quality mindset like the Japanese & most probably there will be some loose parts or manufacturing defects in their product.
Don't get me wrong. I love my country but I'm really disgusted by Proton's attitude in their own place. Majority Malaysian hates the Proton cars & most of them will choose Perodua car (the 2nd national car company). Those who can afford will definitely buy imported cars.
